Scotland, the end

On our way back to Edinburgh Friday, we stopped by Gleneagles to meet John and Christine Souter for lunch and golf. Unlike the links courses we'd played all week, this resort is inland and features "parkland" courses, which are a bit more familiar to American golfers. After enjoying the best sausage I've ever had, we stepped out onto the Queen's course where we soon got to experience John and Christine's competitive side.

John is a true Scottish golfer, with a distinctive swing and fast pace. Me and Dad play a pretty quick game by American standards, but John had us struggling to keep up at times. John also believes in putting out. There were many a putt that me and dad would normally concede that John would take a long look at before saying in a thick Scottish accent, "mmmmm, going to have to put that one."

Christine is also a fine golfer and was my partner for our match play round. We took an early lead and appeared to be cruising for victory until things started to unravel towards the end of the round. John and Dad wound up winning by the narrowest of margins.

And so our week of golf concluded, here with me and Dad on the last tee.

We had a tiring but uneventful trip home and were greeted in Nashville by Mom, Laura and Jackson. It's good to be back, but I hope we can return someday...
