Busy Days

So much to talk about all of a sudden. I guess having a little one will do that. Sunday, the hospital's wifi went down so I couldn't post any updates or check our e-mails. Talk about isolation! With that now fixed I can report that we were kept in the hospital another night. Laura's blood pressure has been pretty crazy. On her full meds it drops way too much. On no meds it's way too high. The doctor finally decided to try partial meds starting at the lowest dose. Her pressure is still high this morning but they're gradually increasing her medication to find the new sweet spot. Before sending us home, they want to see a trend of stable blood pressure.

Our extra stay has made it easy to visit Jackson Riley a bit more, so we're not complaining! Yesterday at lunch, Jackson had his first food, mommy milk! His nurse put a little tube in his mouth all the way down to his tummy and he's being fed mommy milk through this until he gets to where he can safely take a bottle.

At lunchtime, daddy got to hold him while he took his food and he just loves being held. After his tummy was full, mommy got to hold him for a long while before we put him back in his bed and turned the biliblanket back on.

He seems to rest a whole lot better without the cpap. Aside from providing oxygen, the cpap also applies pressure to the lungs making it easier to breath. After a whole day of breathing on his own he was starting to get a little worn out which was being reflected in slightly lower oxygen saturation levels. So later in the evening they put him under a hood which they can add supplemental oxygen to. It's basically just a big clear bowl that fills up his bed from about the middle of his chest to the top of the bed. With the blue bililight, his black shades and a futuristic clear helment he looked like a little Joe Cool astronaut edition. It's about the funniest thing I've ever seen. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture with our digital camera since the battery was dead. :(

More to come...
