On the subject of remodeling, at long last the kitchen is "officially" back together! Last night the final pieces of quarter round were nailed in place thus completing the project.
Before:

After:

Unaware of all the complications to follow I stubbornly insisted that the new tile floor be the same height as our existing hardwood.I've never been a fan of ramps, reducers and other transitions, so this was priority one. As the project progressed, I had to pull out all the baseboards, use 3 times as much mortar as planned (which isn't cheap I discovered) and then got to hack away at the cabinetry with my jigsaw to get the new dishwasher to fit. In the end, the project was a success and hopefully all the splinters, blisters and sore backs will soon be forgotten, leaving a nice new kitchen to enjoy for years to come.

With this experience behind us now, I must advise you heed the ancient Chinese proverb: Unsettled is home with new baby and no kitchen

do you think you could have cleaned off the counter before taking the 'after' shot?
Love it! Even the backsplash. Fancy!
Love the smooth transition too...Wish they had done that with ours.
Does this mean the moulding around the fireplace is finally down too? :)
Wow, looks like two different places completely. I'm still laughing about the backsplash behind the fridge though... :)
