When it rains

Jackson had his first doctor's appointment Wednesday on his 2 week birthday! It was just a NICU followup with his pediatrician, Dr. Brassart. More importantly though, it was the first time all his admirers at Laura's workplace got to see him in person. They've been quite the loyal followers of his progress so I must apologize to all the other parents who had the misfortune of scheduling an appointment between 8:45 and 9:50 at Cornerstone Pediatrics as productivity came to a complete halt!

Can someone please find a nurse?

Anyone???

All the other patients are wondering what's taking so long...

After receiving a beautiful blanket which his nurse, April, knit for him, Dr. Jeff came in and was very pleased with his progress.
Jackson weighed somewhere around 4lb 9oz before peeing all over the weigh room. After cleaning up the mess, he weighed an official 4lb 8oz, which is getting very close to his birth weight. As an aside, these surprises while naked are becoming quite common. His first diaper change at home took 3 tries to get through successfully...

We'll be making trips to the office once a week for a while to weigh him to make sure he's getting enough food. While we were there, his cord also came off. Since he was born premature, his immune system is not yet fully developed so Dr. Jeff has advised against visitors for around 6 weeks, certainly through the end of RSV season. We can make exceptions for healthy grandparents but that's about it since if he were to catch something it would likely mean a return to the hospital.

Back at home, Jack seems to be adjusting to his new surroundings very well. He's eating good and sleeping pretty well. We can't let him go more than 4 hours between feedings until his weight gets up so sleeping through the night is not an option. However, as suspected, Daddy's a hard enough sleeper to sleep right through all the feeding commotion unless Mommy makes a determined effort to wake him up...

Jack's still falling asleep by the end of his feeding, but now he's starting to wake back up shortly after it's over. It's not unusual for him to be fairly alert for around a half hour. At his evening feeding on Thursday, we gave him his first bath since he came home and we all removed our hospital wrist bands in a grand ceremony! We'd been wearing them faithfully while Jack was in the NICU, but now the time had finally come to move on. In reality, Daddy just cut them all off quickly as Jack was pretty unhappy about the delay in being fed. At any rate, we're so glad to all be home together!

And in other news, Daddy's finally wrapping up the home remodeling madness! The tile floors are down and the kitchen appliances have returned. We just had our first home cooked dinner tonight since we returned from the hospital. We're also being taken care of very well by our church friends and my parents are scheduled to spend next week with us helping out around the house and fixing meals. Yippee!

As if we didn't have enough on our plate we got a nice letter from the IRS this week stating we owed a considerable amount in taxes plus interest in from 2007. So, while Daddy was at work today getting Jack added to our insurance, he also worked on gathering the necessary information to prove this is a mistake. Let's just hope the IRS agrees...

Weight check tomorrow!
